Day trip from Geneva to Annecy with Swiss railpass or Leman Pass?

Short summary – read this first

A couple shared their excitement about their upcoming trip to the Geneva/Montreux/Lausanne area this September and are planning a day trip to Annecy. They are confused about which Leman Pass ticket option to purchase for their journey and have questions about how their existing travel passes apply.

Key takeaways:
  • For a one-way trip to Annecy, purchase the Leman Pass Individual ticket for the route section only.
  • If you have a Swiss Travel Pass or a Saver Day Pass, you only need an additional ticket for the route from Annemasse to Annecy.
  • If you plan to explore around Annecy, you'll need to buy additional zone tickets for local travel.

Last Sept we spent two weeks in Switzerland and absolutely love it, thanks to the help of this forum.

This September , we will be spending a few days around Geneva/Mountreux/Lausanne. We are planning to perhaps do a day trip Geneva-Annecy.

Just looking at the tickets on SBB … and there are different options for Leman Pass individual ticket.

Leman Pass individual ticket for Zone 10, Zone 10, 380 and Zone 380.

Leman Pass Individual Ticket (only route section)

I am confused as to what this pass cover and which option I should buy ?

Also, if a I have a Super Saver Day Pass or Super Saver Day ticket, or a STP,  I presume these only cover the fare to the border?

    thanks again 🙏

Day savers and STP are valid on the TRAIN to Annemasse station.

Hi Sewchek! Did you ever find out the answer to this regarding the Leman Pass options? Planning on doing the same Geneva-Annecy route and not sure which tickets to buy.

    Hi deltajuliet,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

If you are wanting to travel Geneva-Annecy:  for a single journey, a Leman Pass Individual ticket would be needed, for a return journey, a Leman Pass Day Pass would be required.  (You would need purchase an additional zone if you were intending to travel around Annecy itself)

If you already have a Swiss Travel Pass (https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/swiss-travel-pass/ ) or Saver Day Pass (https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/saver-day-pass/), you would only need to buy a ticket for the route Annemasse to Annecy.

    I hope this helps.

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda

Hello  Yolanda, thanks very much for the info.

I only need a one-way ticket to Annecy and got confused with the options when I tried buying from the SBB app.

One option is the Leman Pass Individual Ticket but with 3 different zone options: Zone 10, Zone 380 and Zone 10, 380

Second option is Leman Pass Individual Ticket (only route section)

Is it correct to buy the second option (only route section) instead of the other one with different zones?

    Hi deltajuliet,

If your plan is to travel in and around the Annecy area, you will need to buy the additional zone tickets.  If you only need to reach Annecy itself, the route only ticket will suffice.

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda
