GENEVA to Paris by TGV

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named PK is planning a day trip from Geneva to Paris using their Swiss Rail Pass. They want to know if the pass is valid for TGV trains and if their Schengen visa allows entry into Paris. Unfortunately, the Swiss Travel Pass does not cover TGV routes, as it is only valid within Switzerland.

Key takeaways:
  • The Swiss Travel Pass is not valid for TGV trains from Geneva to Paris.
  • Book TGV tickets early to secure the lowest fares.
  • You can have around 10 hours in Paris if you take the first train out and the last train back.

    Greetings,

I have a Swiss Rail Pass and have a day free at Geneva. I wanted to know if it’s possible to take TGV from Geneva to Paris and back.

    1. Will my Swiss Rail Pass be applicable to use TGV?

    2. Will my multiple entry Schengen visa issued for Switzerland valid for visit to Paris?

    Regards

    PK

The TGV train route Geneva – Paris is wholly within France, so no I’m sorry but the Swiss Travel Pass is not valid – as its title suggests it is only valid in Switzerland.

The good news is that if you leave Geneva on the first TGV of the day and return from Paris on the last TGV of the day, you could get a full 10 hours in Paris.

The best way to buy French TGV tickets for this route is to book as early as possible for the lowest fares: http://www.tgv-lyria.com/fr/en

    Hi PK!

The Swiss Travel Pass covers trips within Switzerland (with a few exceptions for short routes in bordering countries). Geneva-Paris is not included, as explained by 1960man. You can check the Swiss Travel Pass coverage with the information and downloadable validity map here: https://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/validity.

All connections to and from Paris can be found with the aid of the Swiss timetable. This page explains how to use it: https://www.myswissalps.com/timetable.

Information about tickets to Paris and how to get the best fares is available here: https://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/france.
