I will be in the Normandy area of France w/ a rental car. Need to get to Interlaken where I have a hotel booked for July 13. What are my best options if I plan to depart Normandy early morning on the 13th. Do I try and get a train from Caen or drive to Paris early am and start my train travel there. Ideally would like to get to Interlaken around 8-9 PM. I’m asking y’all as I’m about to go crazy trying to figure this out on the internet.

    Hello Mark

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

Fast trains run from Caen to Paris Gare St Lazare about every one-two hours.  July 13th is too far in the future to be sure about the times of trains Caen to Paris.  But the current timetable shows a train leaving Caen at 10 05 and arriving in Paris at 12 02.

The normal route from Paris to Interlaken is to take a TGV (French High Speed Train) from Paris to Basel, and then a Swiss Intercity train from Basel to Interlaken.  Times for this part of your journey are already on SBB website.

If you left Paris (Gare de Lyon) at 14 22 you will get to Basel SBB at 17 35. From Basel you catch the 17 58 IC61 to Interlaken Ost, arriving there at 19 59.

Note that both French Trains require seat reservations.  That is not the case with the Swiss IC61

    Kind regards
    Roger
