How much time to spend at Giessbach Falls on Lake Brienz boat trip?

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named Rasha is planning a Brienze lake cruise in June and is trying to decide between taking the 1 pm or 3 pm ferry after arriving at Giessbach at 12 pm. They want to know how much time they need to take the funicular to the waterfalls, explore them, and return to the dock.

Key takeaways:
  • Allocate at least 1 to 2 hours for a short hike to the waterfalls and back to the dock to ensure you have enough time.
  • The ride on the funicular to the Grandhotel Giessbach is only 4 minutes, so you can quickly access the area.
  • Consider having lunch at the hotel or at nearby food kiosks for a nice break during your visit.
  • The stunning views of both the Giessbach waterfalls and Lake Brienz are worth the trip, so take your time to enjoy them.

    Hi Rasha,

The ride on the vintage funicular to the Grandhotel Giessbach takes only 4 minutes. You could also follow the trail and walk up to the hotel if you like. You’ll get a good view of the Giessbach waterfalls right from the hotel grounds. The view of Lake Brienz is also amazing. The hotel has a restaurant where you can have lunch. When I visited a few years ago, there was also a couple of food kiosks which sold takeaway foods. Optionally, you could walk up to the waterfalls. There’s a trail that leads to right under it. I would allocate at least 1 or 2 hours if you plan to include this short hike. Alternatively, you could also walk from Giessbach Falls all the way to Iseltwald and take the boat there: https://www.myswissalps.com/blog/hike-giessbach-iseltwald/

We spent a good couple of hours there, and still didn’t have much time for walking around the falls.

The hotel was gorgeous and we opted for a nice lunch with exceptional views.
