Where and how do I upgrade my Glacier Express ticket?

Short summary – read this first

A traveler shared their experience of difficulty booking tickets for the Glacier Express, ending up with two separate seats for them and their wife. They want to know if they can upgrade to a different class and where to inquire about it.

Key takeaways:
  • You can upgrade from 2nd to 1st class by paying the fare difference, but you'll also need new seat reservations in 1st class.
  • Inquiries about upgrades can be made online through the SBB website or at any train station.
  • Contacting Glacier Express directly via email can provide detailed answers and assistance.

We had difficulty booking tickets for the glacier express. I assume the tour companies bought up all the seats instantly on the day we needed to go. Anyway we have 2 seats, wife and I are not together. Is it possible to upgrade to a different class as time goes on. Also where do I inquire about upgrading. The web site? At the train station?  Any help is appreciated.

I had a few questions regarding our reservations and emailed them directly at [email protected].  They were very good at replying in great detail to all that I asked.

    Hi surfer,

That’s good to hear you managed to secure seat reservations for your trip but that’s a shame you and your wife are not seated together.

If I have understood correctly, you would now like to upgrade to travel 1st class. You can get an upgrade ticket to pay for the difference between the 2nd and 1st class fare for the route you wish to travel. However, you would need to secure seat reservations in 1st class too, which would mean you would have to forfeit your current seat reservations in 2nd.

Upgrading can take place at any train station or online through the SBB website, before your trip.

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda
