How to purchase GoldenPass Express rail ticket?

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is planning a 3-day trip in October to the Interlaken area after flying into Geneva. They are looking for advice on purchasing train tickets for their journey, specifically between Montreux and Interlaken on the Golden Pass train, and whether a Swiss Travel Pass is necessary given their existing Interlaken Guest Card.

Key takeaways:
  • Purchase a point-to-point ticket for the Golden Pass train from Montreux to Interlaken via Zweisimmen if you're not using a Swiss Travel Pass.
  • The 1st class Saver Day Pass covers your entire journey, including the Golden Pass train, and it's best to buy it early to avoid higher prices closer to your travel date.
  • You don't need to confirm your pass with the train operator; just show the Saver Day Pass along with your seat reservation on the day of travel.

Hi all. IĀ  have book Prestige seats for myself and my husband for October. We are only in Switzerland for 3 days (Interlaken area) and have an Interlaken Guest Card so have determined that the benefits of a Swiss Pass are questionable (the potential weather conditions re mountain trips etc were taken into account). Happy for feedback if I am wrong.

We fly into Geneva, stay overnight, then take a train from Geneva to Montreux. We are then travelling from Montreux to Interlaken and have purchased our seats on the Golden Pass train. I am now trying to purchase our train ticket on the Golden Pass train, however, every link I go to takes me to more links or to a ticket on the Montreux to Interlaken via Bern. HELP! Is it just to early? (I have a reminder in my calendar that I can purchase from today following previous research). Which sites do you recommend?

    Hi ckone08,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

In addition to seat reservation, you need a 1st class ticket to travel on the GoldenPass Express train in Prestige class.

You can purchase a point-to-point ticket indicating that you are travelling from Montreux to Interlaken via Zweisimmen. Information on how to purchase point-to-point tickets is available here: https://www.myswissalps.com/travel/tickets/point-to-point/

    regards,

Thank you for your response Anna, much appreciated.Ā  I have checked out both the Swiss Saver Day Pass and a point to point ticket. There is only a couple of $ difference, therefore, as we will actually be catching a train from Geneva to Montreux early in the morning, prior to boarding the Golden Pass Express, the Saver Day Pass seems to be the best option as it fully covers the journey without any need to also purchase a ticket. Do I need to then confirm I have a pass with the company we purchased our Prestige Class seats from, or just turn up on the day and show the Pass?

    Hi ckone08,

A 1st class Saver Day Pass (https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/saver-day-pass/) is also valid for travel on the GoldenPass Express train in Prestige Class. There is no need to confirm with the train operator that you have a ticket. Just present your Saver Day Pass together with your seat reservation to the ticket controller upon request.

    Regards,
    Anna

    Hi ckone08,

Yes, once your plans are set, do purchase your Saver Day Pass soon. You can purchase up to 6 months in advance.Ā  Pricing for Saver Day Passes become more expensive as your travel date nears.Ā  You’ll find online purchase options in the link that Anna provided in her last reply.

    Kind regards,
    Yolanda
