Golden Round Trip Mt. Pilatus with Swiss Travel Pass
A traveler is planning a trip to Mt Pilatus in July and wants to know more about the Golden Round Trip excursion. They seek advice on ticket options, prices, and inclusions, especially considering the Swiss Travel Pass and a planned stop at Fräkmuntegg for a toboggan run.
- The Golden Round Trip is available from June to October and allows starting from either Kriens or Alpnachstad; consider your itinerary.
- With a Swiss Travel Pass, you get discounts on some segments of the Golden Round Trip, but not all are fully covered; buy tickets a day in advance based on weather.
- You can stop at Fräkmuntegg during the Golden Round Trip and continue your journey afterwards.

Hello again. We are planning to go to Mt Pilatus in July next year, I have been seeing this Golden Round Trip excursion to Mt Pilatus. I have read that starting from Kriens is better than Alpnachstad if you want to avoid the crowd. I think that’s what me and my friends are going to do. I’m a little confused on what the Golden Round Trip means.
1. Is Golden Round Trip a package for tourists? Does it make more sense or is it cheaper to buy individual tickets when we get to the stations or buy them in advance (bus, gondola, cableway, cogwheel, and boat)?
2. Is Golden Round Trip included in Swiss Travel Pass? If not, is it cheaper to buy the Golden Round Trip in advance? If we buy the tickets individually, are they all included in the Swiss Travel Pass?
3. For the Golden Round Trip, is there a time that we have to be at the stations or time that we have to leave/go back?
4. We also plan on stopping at Frankmuntegg to do the Toboggan run before going up to Mt Pilatus. Is this stop included in the Golden Round Trip?
Thank you in advance! 😁
