Harder Kulm to Augstmatthorn hike in April

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is planning a visit to Switzerland during Easter from April 19-22 and wants to hike the scenic route from Harder Kulm to Augstmatthorn in the Jungfrau region. They are unsure if this trail is open at the end of April, as most information about it covers June to September.

Key takeaways:
  • Check with the local tourist office for the trail conditions and whether it’s safe to hike due to snow.
  • Late April may be too early for high-altitude hikes, especially on ridges; avoid hiking on windy days.

    Hi there,

    I’m visiting Switzerland during Easter ( 19-22 April 2019).

I came accross scenic hike from Harder Kulm-Augstmatthorn and would love to include this route in my itinerary while staying in Jungfrau region. All information I’ve fond about this trail were for June/July – September. Is the trail open in this season (end of April)?

    Hi Lostcompass,

Welcome to MySwissAlps! The Augstmatthorn is over 2100 meters high and you need to hike on a ridge to get there. Personally I would not risk it unless the local tourist agency says the path is clear of snow. And only on a non-windy day. Late April is very early for these kind of hikes.
