    Hello

As i mentioned in another thread , will be in Brienz for 7 days  between 21st and 27th. But looks like weather forecast is not promising for ours 🙁

we initially thought of taking BO pass for 6 days and use that for below excrusions

1: Brienz Rothhorn Ride and may be descend via Sorenberg and explore the village and getback to breinz via luzern/bern

2: Wengen–Männlichen–Grindelwald circuit and royal walk

    3: Murren and Schilthorn excursion

    4: Schynige Platte

5: Spiez Wineyards , Aeschi bei Spiez and Niesen

    Backup plans

    • Kandersteg + Oeschinensee hike
    • Stanserhorn
    • Alpine tower
    • Aareschlucht

I have already purchased HFC , waiting for reliable forecast before buying BO pass.

1: Considering the current weather situation whats everyone take..? i believe BO pass is worth if i can do all those rides in my priority list

2: Other than Aareschlucht , what else options i have in rainy days

    Hello again

My basic advice is still invest in Half Fare Cards and Berner Oberland Passes, irrespective of what the weather forecasts are saying.  (Remember you will also need HFCs to get the Family Card for the two children.):

    https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/swiss-half-fare-card/
    https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/berner-oberland-pass/

As to what to do if the weather in the period 21st to 27th is poor, may I refer you to two of my replies in your previous thread asking about what [Public Transport]  Pass you should buy for a seven day stay in Brienz.

In reply 3 I set out some wet weather excursions FREE with a Berner Oberland Pass.

In my reply 9 I gave a number of further ideas.

    Snow up Mountains?

At this time of year, if there is a lot of rain down in the valleys (eg at Brienz) you can be fairly sure that at higher levels the precipitation is going to be Snow.   Referring to my reply 24, I would expect there to be plenty of snow on the Schilthorn.  The Schilthorn is free with BOP.

    Kind regards

    Roger

Thanks Roger again , yes i remember all the valuable suggestions , i will consider those on rainy days [ we are already carrying rain jackets and water resistant shoes]

1: I already got my HFC along with family card
2: Yes , its nice to have snow as my kids wanted to see them as fresh fall , but in top of mountains will it be completely foggy during the snow fall..? [ its a noob doubt : i mean do we really able to enjoy the snow when its falling in mountains becuase of covered up climate]

3: At last i am really hoping to get some clearance , in between instead of every day of rain  [ hope weather gods will grant my wish here]

    Hello again

In response to your point 2,. note

While snow is falling visibility is going to be (very) poor.
Once the snow has stopped visibility may well still be (very) poor.
However, if the cloud disperses, then the scene can be absolutely wonderful.  You are surrounded by snow-covered mountains gleeming in the sunshine!
Note also that, in the Alps, you can often be ‘above the clouds’.

    KInd regards
    Roger

    Thanks Roger

So how do we decide when to visit mountain top in such weather..?

I believe  go only when cloud is below and sun at top ..? [ Anything other than is strict no right..?] i am trying to figure out the scenarios  for my plan.

Unfortunately , Rothhorn needs reservation which is something we cant decide on the same day i guess.

    Hello again

Study weather forecasts carefully.  Also study local conditions carefully.  Go up only if there are significant breaks in the cloud, OR you are reasonably sure that the relevant summit will be above the clouds.  (If necessary ask the people at the bottom station booking office.)   If the weather is not favourable to a mountain trip your 6-day BOPs will allow you to go somewhere else.

For Brienzer Rothorn you have the great advantage that you are staying in Brienz!  Book on the first journey up,. but if the weather is bad cancel, go somewhere else with your BOPs.  (Ask the bottom station at Brienz for advice on this point.)

    Best wishes for your trip

    Roger

    Hi cod_ninja,

A lake cruise is still a good option on a rainy day. From Brienz, you could easily hop on the boat and enjoy a roundtrip cruise on Lake Brienz. Just make sure you check the schedules beforehand as there is limited service during the autumn season (https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/boat-lake-brienz/#dates)

Alternatively, you could opt for a longer cruise on Lake Thun and combine your cruise with sightseeing in Thun and Spiez. The cruises on Lake Thun run all year round (https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/boat-lake-thun/#dates)

If you enjoy visiting museums, there is Trauffer World which is located in Brienz. The museum specializes in handmade wooden toys and Swiss souvenirs (www.trauffer.ch/en). Admission is free with the Swiss Travel Pass. You get a 20% discount if you have a Berner Oberland Pass.

    Regards,
    Anna
