My wife and I are doing a 21 day Switzerland rail trip, and the final 5 days we want to dedicate only to Switzerland winery’s.

1) What is the best city to stay to have the easiest access to the best vineyards? Montreux? Lausanne?

2) Any recommendations on the best wine tours, vineyards, or routes to enjoy as much as possible?

3) How do people get to the vineyards? Taxi, or buses, or booked tours?

4) Are there any really good wine “experiences” like restaurants, tastings, or wine and cheese picnics etc we should put on the list?

We’ve never been to Switzerland, so any help would be much appreciated.

I think that the most famous vine region is Lavaux, between Montreux and Lausanne: http://www.myswissalps.com/lakegeneva.

I would stay in Montreux or Vevey: http://www.myswissalps.com/montreux/hotels and http://www.myswissalps.com/montreux/rentals.

This one is a great walking route through Lavaux: http://www.myswissalps.com/hiking/lutry-epesses. Or you can simply walk down from Chexbres to Rivaz.
