Hiking in late May in the Wengen area
Misty Rose and her husband will be in Wengen from May 28-31. They usually visit Switzerland in summer but had to change their plans this year and are concerned about the Mannlichen to Kleine Scheidegg and Frist to Bachalpsee Lake trails being closed due to snow in late May. They're looking for advice on other open trails at higher elevations.
- Check local weather updates on arrival for the most accurate trail conditions.
- The Mannlichen to Kleine Scheidegg trail is typically closed until mid-June due to snow.
- Consider using the Wengen-Männlichen Aerial Cableway to access beautiful views and trails despite potential closures.
- Explore lower elevation trails in the valley, which may still offer incredible hiking experiences.

My husband and I will be staying in Wengen May 28-31. We normally travel to Switzerland in July or August but unfortunately our work schedules this year only allow for the last week in May. We like to hike the Mannlichen to Kleine Scheidegg trail and the Frist to Bachalpsee Lake trail. I realize you can’t predict the weather but are these trails normally closed at that time of year? Suggestions for trails that may be open in the higher elevations? Thanks in advance!
