I realized that the funicular is not operational during the winter period. I’m contemplating hiking up and down together with my friend. I think the trail is open all year but just wondering if it is safe to do so in winter? Does the hike gets particularly challenging at some point?

    Hi Greatesthit, welcome to MySwissAlps!

If there is no snow on the mountain then it should be doable. Do mind that it’s 600 vertical meters up and of course also down, so that’s quite a walk. It’s steep but forested so no cliffs and drop-offs as far as I know. You do need solid hiking shoes and personally I wouldn’t do it without hiking poles either.
