How to add Swiss Half Fare Cards to SBB account

Short summary – read this first

Cfcuyer is trying to link their Half Fare Card account to the app but is having trouble. They noticed that their friends' cards appear in the app, and they are seeking guidance on how to resolve this issue. The Half Fare Card is valid for one month starting July 1, and Cfcuyer wants to ensure they can easily buy tickets using the app.

Key takeaways:
  • To link your Half Fare Card in the app, go to My settings – Passengers and check the box for 'Half-Fare travelcard 1/2'.
  • You don't need to link your card to buy tickets, as other methods are available like at stations or various websites.
  • It's best to have a paper copy of your Swiss Half Fare Card as a backup, even if you have a scannable barcode on your phone.

I want to add/link my Ticket Shop account to the app but cannot figure out how to do so? The Half Fare Card is for one month, beginning July 1. My friends purchased the same 1-month Half Fare card and theirs shows up right in the APP.

    Thank you!

    Hi Cfcuyler,

Welcome to MySwissAlps! You can go to My settings – Passengers, then tick “Half-Fare travelcard 1/2”. So you can’t actually link your specific card, but you can indicate that you have one. There is no requirement to do so, but it speeds up buying tickets if you want to buy them through the app. You can also buy at the station or from numerous other websites: http://www.myswissalps.com/tr aintickets/switzerland halffare/price. None of them require you to proof that you have a Swiss Half Fare Card. Checks will be done on the train, as that’s when you have to produce the Swiss Half Fare Card, passport and a ticket.

    Enjoy your trips!

Thank you for the information. I have other family members who purchased the half fare card and the card with barcode shows up in their SBB app?

    Hello CF,

I think you will find it shows up as a PDF on their phone but not actually in the app. Unless of course they have the domestic half-fare card which is different from the tourist Swiss Half-fare Card.

If they do in fact have the Swiss Half-fare Card stored in the app then do please tell us how they did it. 🤓

I have a PDF of my Swiss Half Fare Card on my phone, and also a screen shot pic of the PDF. Can I show that on the train, or do I need to have a paper copy with me?

    Thanks for the help.

As long as the barcode is scannable on your phone then you should be OK.

But I would strongly recommend you have a paper copy as backup just in case your phone goes flat OR you run into a fussy inspector. You may be asked for you passport as well.
