How to buy tickets for the Lavaux wine train

Short summary – read this first

Gordon is planning a trip from Lausanne and wants to know how to maximize his Swiss Travel Pass while riding the Lavaux Wine Train to the UNESCO vineyards above Lake Geneva. He also seeks clarification on whether he needs to pay extra for the ticket on this scenic train ride.

Key takeaways:
  • The Lavaux Wine Train is fully covered by the Swiss Travel Pass, so you won't have to pay extra for the ticket.
  • It's recommended to check the train timetable for connections between Lausanne and Puidoux to plan your trip efficiently.
  • When you reach Chexbres, consider taking a panoramic train for wine tasting, though it's not covered by the Swiss Travel Pass.
  • No reservations are required for the Lavaux Wine Train, making it flexible and easy to board.

    Hi Gordon,

Swiss Travel Pass – good choice!

The Wine train is just the regular regional train which goes through the vineyards: http://www.region-du-leman.ch/en/P629/train -des-vignes-train-ride-vevey-puidoux

The reason it is differentiated is because the track that takes intercity (fast) trains goes along the lake so the vineyards cannot be appreciated in the same way… You can plan to take it using the timetable for travelling times and connections (just enter Lausanne to Puidoux): http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable

In addition, when you get to Chexbres you can take the Panoramic train on wheels, which offers wine tasting etc (this is not covered by the Swiss Travel Pass).

Personally though, I prefer to stroll through the vineyards. We have a walk that might interest you: http://www.myswissalps.com/hi king/lutry-epesses

Hope this helps and have a wonderful trip!

    Maria.

    Hi Maria –

It was not clear to me from your post, that the wine train is fully covered by the STP.

I thinks that is implied in your comments, but, I thought that I’d double check.

<<“In the circumstance, how much will I have to pay for the ticket in riding the LAVAUX WINE TRAIN?”>>

Nothing extra…since it is “regular” intercity train, its fare is covered by the STP.

    Hi Slowpoke,

Yes, it’s fully covered. It’s a regular train on a regular though scenic (short) route. No reservations required either.

Hi Slowpoke, indeed, it was implied that it was fully covered, like all other regular trains 😉

HappyMak, if you’re ever in doubt about what your Swiss Travel Pass covers, you can go to http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass/validity

There is also a map you can download there.

    Have a great time!
