How to get my 15 day Swiss Travel Pass to show up on the SBB App

Short summary – read this first

ScottieJoe is trying to figure out how to display their Swiss Travel Pass on the SBB app after purchasing 15-day passes for themselves. They are unclear if they need to wait until the travel dates to see it on the app and want some guidance on how the pass works.

Key takeaways:
  • You cannot link the Swiss Travel Pass to the SBB Mobile App; simply show it to the ticket inspector directly from your smartphone or print it as a backup.
  • Always carry your passport when traveling with the Swiss Travel Pass as it may be needed for ID verification, especially when buying discounted mountain tickets.
  • It's recommended to print your Swiss Travel Pass on A4 paper for easier inspection by ticket inspectors and cable car clerks.

    Hi ScottieJoe,

You can’t link your Swiss Travel Pass to the SBB Mobile App. This is not possible and there is no need to.

When you purchase the Swiss Travel Pass, you will receive it in digital format or e-ticket. You can just show it to the ticket inspector directly from your smartphone. Or you can also print it out (recommended as a backup in case you phone runs out of battery).

You can find further information here: https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/swiss-travel-pass/ (scroll down to the section How does the Swiss Travel Pass work)

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,
    Anna

    Hi Scottie Joe,

With the STP purchase (the best idea!) there is no need to link it to SBB and you are free to travel on swiss trains / trams / buses except special trains like Glacier Express/ Bernina and such, where a reservation is required.
You can have the STP proof of purchase on your smart phone. I used to carry a hard copy printed in case of internet connection / phone issues. Be sure to carry your passport for proof of ID.  The inspector can be picky and can reject any other non passport ID (like Drivers Lic / other forms). So be sure to carry your passport.  Also when using the STP to buy discounted or half fare mountain train / Gandola rides, the clerk may ask for an ID at the time of ticket purchase. It happened to me at Mount Titlis.
Otherwise, I never had any issues travelling on STP.
    Have a great trip!

    Hello Scottie Joe

I visit Switzerland regularly.  I always invest in a Swiss Travel Pass.  Nowadays, I always buy it on line, print it out A4 size, and put the print out in a transparent cover.  I also keep a second back-up copy in the minisafe at my hotel.

Ticket inspectors and cable car booking clerks welcome the A4 printout, as they are much easier for them to check than smart phones.

On the identity point, Ram has some very sound advice.  Whereas 50 years ago I was rarely (if ever) asked to prove my identity, nowadays this happens quite often.

    Kind regards

    Roger

    Hi ScottieJoe,

Just to add, the SBB app is geared to Swiss citizens and often there is mention of a SwissPass. The Swiss Travel Pass is for tourists (and has nothing to do with the SwissPass).

Further information, in case you were interested in the link below:

    Kind regards,
    Yolanda
