Hi everyone,

Yesterday, the Swiss National Bank decided to discontinue the minimum exchange rate of 1.20 Swiss francs to 1 Euro. Depending on where you live, spending your holidays in Switzerland can be more expensive now. Hopefully the rates will recover a bit.

Regardless whether they do or don’t, there are a lot of ways to save money: plan carefully, pick the right rail pass, shop at the cheaper supermarkets, book a budget hotel, and more. See here for all the tips.

All very useful tips! What we always do to save money is take some food with us of which we know it’s more expensive in Switzerland. We always rent an apartment so that we can cook our own (sometimes simple) meals. And of course, if you want to cook something local or buy fresh produce, the supermarkets Arno mentiones come in handy. So you may consider this if you’re going by car and you have the space, of course.

We are planning two trips to Switzerland this year and if it will be necessary to economize, we will do it here :). We are going anyway! As always we will buy a travel pass, which will save us a lot of money too as we prefer public transport over our own car once we are in Switzerland.
