Using an ICE train in Switzerland

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is planning a trip to Switzerland and wants to know if they can use the Saver Day Pass and the Children Co Travelcard on ICE trains from Bern to Interlaken or Basel to Zurich. They are specifically interested in whether SBB tickets will work for those trains. This traveler is keen on traveling efficiently within their schedule.

Key takeaways:
  • You can use the Saver Day Pass and the Children Co Travelcard on ICE trains within Switzerland.
  • ICE trains are treated like Swiss internal trains, so Swiss tickets and passes work just fine.
  • While ICE trains are comfortable, consider the IC trains as they may suit your itinerary without significant time loss.
  • ICE trains have free WiFi, but remember there’s a limit of 200 MB.

    Good night,

I am planning my trip to Switzerland and I have a question about the ICE train in Swiss territory. Can I use the Saver Day Pass and the Children Co Travelcard to travel with the ICE train from Bern to Interlaken or from Basel to Zurich? Is it possible to travel in that train with SBB tickets?

    Thanks in advance!

Sure, but they are not long journeys and ICE trains won’t get you there much faster than IC or other trains really. Pick a connection that suits your itinerary rather than seeking out ICE train.

Ok, thank you. I’m asking just because the ICE train departs Bern at the time that I want to leave for Interlaken (around 19h). Otherwise, I would catch the IC train.

By all means pick the ICE train if that works time-wise for you.

ICE trains run within Switzerland as if they were Swiss internal trains. You can use them with Swiss tickets and passes just as easily as using a Swiss local bus.

ICEs are worth seeking out as they are famously comfortable compared to other European trains

Just got onto an ICE train to Basel at Zurich HB. Second time this trip, first time totally by accident. These ICE trains are great, especially cos they have free WiFi!! 👍🏼👍🏼

PS: my husband said to mention that the free WiFi limit is 200 MB.
