We are planning one night in Kandersteg to hike around Oshaunessy lake before heading to Zermatt, – what’s the best hotel to stay there ? And any advice on where to hike?

Hi Nitram!

Which hotel is best, depends on your preferences and budget class. But there are several options in Kandersteg, located within quick walking distance from the rail station and the gondola valley station. Examples are Chalet Hotel Adler and Belle Époque Hotel Victoria.

I recommend starting your search at https://www.myswissalps.com/accommodation/hotels/ and typing in “Kandersteg” under “Switzerland hotel finder”.

As for hiking near the Oeschinensee: it’s an easy 20-minute path from the gondola top station to the lake. Alternatively, you can take the more panoramic 45-minute path via Läger. In addition, there’s a mountain trail higher up above the lake, but that’s only recommended if you’re an experienced mountain hiker, are in good shape, and have all the proper hiking gear.
