Is there a bus to the Oeschinen gondola and then to the lake itself?

Short summary – read this first

Lambey is planning a trip to Lake Oeschinensee in early June and needs advice on getting from the Kandersteg train station to the mountain lift. They want to know if they should walk or take a bus and if there is a bus from the top of the lift to the lake.

Key takeaways:
  • You can walk to the cable car station from Kandersteg train station in about 15 minutes, or take a bus that runs from June to October.
  • An electric shuttle bus operates at the top of the lift to Lake Oeschinensee; tickets must be purchased on-site without reservations.
  • Check the Swiss timetable for bus schedules to plan your trip smoothly.

Hoping to visit the lake in early June but we are not too active (both mid 80s)

From the railway station do we walk or get a bus to the mountain lift ?

Having successfully arrived at the top does the ‘bus’ still run between the top of the lift and the lake?

    Many thanks

    Hi Lambey,

From Kandersteg train station, you can either walk to the cable car station. It’s sign posted and takes around 15 minutes.  Or, yes there is also a bus that takes you to the cable car station too (it runs from June to October).  You can research the schedule using the Swiss timetable:

At the top, there is actually an electric shuttle bus that can take you to Lake Oeschinensee.   A ticket will need to be purchased and reservations can not be made ahead of time, so if it’s busy, you will need to wait.  Otherwise, the walk itself from the gondola station is around 20 minutes.

Have fun.  (By the way if you have the Berner Oberland Pass (https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/berner-oberland-pass/), the cable car to the top is included).

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda
