Klingenstock to Fronalpstock walk early April

Short summary – read this first

Blanka is seeking advice about hiking the ridge walk from Klingenstock to Fronalpstock again in late September. She enjoyed the views previously but is unsure if it's too ambitious due to current snow conditions. She's open to alternative hikes in the Stoos area as well.

Key takeaways:
  • Check the snow conditions before planning the hike, as Fronalpstock has about 150 cm of snow currently.
  • Consider alternative hikes instead, especially since the recommended hiking time for this route is from June to October.
  • Visit stoos-muotatal.ch for current hiking conditions and suggestions in the Stoos area.

Dear All! Seeking for some advice again 🙂 Late September I had the change to enjoy the ridge walk from Klingenstock to Fronalpstock, the views were incredible over the lakes. With temperatures being higher mid-next week, I was wondering if it´s too ambitious to target this walk again in few days time. Not sure if anyone has guidance to share, would also consider alternative hikes in Stoos area. Appreciate your help, hope you have a great Sunday! Regards, Blanka

Hi Blanka! That’s an amazing hike indeed. Glad you already had the chance to enjoy it. Nearly all cable cars in the Stoos area are open until April 5, but there’s still quite some snow at Fronalpstock (about 150 cm) and you’d be walking at an altitude of about 1750-2000 m. The average recommended time of the year for this route is June to October. So I think you should focus on other hikes. You’ll find some open snow shoe routes and other suggestions when scrolling down at stoos-muotatal.ch/betriebsinformationen/ or at stoos-muotatal.ch/en/hiking/. I hope that helps!

    HI Blanka,

I agree with Annika. There’s still snow at Fronalpsstock and Klingenstock. In fact the ski season on Stoos doesn’t end until April 5th. From April 6th to May 7th, the chairlifts to Fronalpstock and Klingenstock will be closed for maintenance.

    Regards,

    Anna
