Zurich to Lake Como via Bernina Express
A traveler is planning a trip starting in Zurich on a Friday in July and wants to take the Bernina Express to reach Lake Como. They seek advice on whether to go via Tirano or Lugano and need help deciding where to stay in the Lake Como area before heading back to Lucerne.
- Take the Bernina Express from Chur to Tirano and then catch a bus to Lugano for a quick train ride to Como.
- The train ride from Lugano to Como takes about 45 minutes.
- Consider using the Wilhelm Tell Express route to travel from Como to Lucerne after your stay.

Hi,
We are planning on arriving in Zurich on Friday, July 17 and would like to go to Lake Como. We would like to go first on the Bernina Express on Sat, July 18 and continue to Lake Como from there. Is the most logical way to do this via Tirano or via ferry from Lugano. How much time does it take to get from Tirano or Lugano to Como, and should we stay in Como or another town? Will plan to sleep over for a night or two and head back into Lucerne… Thank you in advance
