Lauterbrunnen-Wengen-Mürren: Swiss Travel Pass

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is planning a 5-6 day trip to either Murren or Wengen. They are unsure whether to buy the Swiss Travel Pass or the Jungfraujoch Travel Pass and are looking for advice on travel coverage and costs, especially for journeys from Milan to Interlaken and how it affects the travel pass choice.

Key takeaways:
  • The Swiss Travel Pass does not cover travel from Milan to the Swiss border, so purchase a ticket from Milan to Domodossola first.
  • The Swiss Travel Pass offers discounts for cable cars, like 50% off to Schilthorn from Murren.
  • Make sure to check the validity map for the Swiss Travel Pass to plan your itinerary effectively.

Does the Swiss travel pass cover the travel from interlaken all the way to Murren and Wengen?

We will be staying in either Murren or Wengen for 5-6 days. I am trying to decide between buying the Swiss travel pass or the Jungfraujoch travel pass. If travel to Murren or Wengen is included in the Swiss travel pass that may be the better choice.

From what I can tell the JTP does cover all cogwheel, cable car and gondolas though and the STP only offers discounts. Correct?

i am also figuring in cost to travel from Milan to Interlaken and the Interlaken to Zurich. The STP would cover those legs which is a cost saving of $175

Thank you for any advice you can offer

All correct , except the Swiss Travel Pass would not be valid between Milano and the Swiss border (Domodossola in this instance, assuming you travel Milano – Brig – Spiez – Interlaken): http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/validity

Yes – I read about purchasing a txt from Milan to Domodossola and using the Swiss Travel pass from there.

Looks like I just need to determine how many cable cars and gondolas we will take….Looks like the STP may still be the best option.

    Thx

Do you know if the Jaugfraujoch travel pass covers travel from Murren to Schilthorn Piz Gloria? I don’t see it listed on their website so I suspect not. I see on the website for Schilthorn they offer half price for travel with the Swiss travel pass.

Hi LCMurray2020 and welcome to MySwissAlps!

At http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/validity you can see the validity map of the Swiss Travel Pass, make sure to browse the list too. Yes, you can use your Swiss Travel Pass to go to the top of Schilthorn:

    • Cable car from Mürren to Schilthorn: 50% off
    • Cable car from Stechelberg to Mürren: free
    • Cable car and train from Lauterbrunnen to Mürren: free

True, that to be able to decide on the Swiss rail passes, first you should know your itinerary. More information about how to choose your rail pass can be found here: http://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/chooserailpass.

I hope this helps, let us know if you have more questions.

Schilthorn is not free with either Berner Oberland Pass nor Jungfrau travel pass
