SBB have our lost item, how and can it be shipped overseas?

Short summary – read this first

Maria reported her lost item at an SBB train station and received an email saying it's been found. Now back in her home country, she needs guidance on how to have it shipped to her since they only mentioned pickup, which she can't do.

Key takeaways:
  • Check your email for a return address to request shipping directly from SBB.
  • If there’s no return address, consider calling SBB at +41 51 225 78 56 for assistance, preferably during off-peak hours.
  • Be prepared to pay a reclaim fee and shipping costs in advance before they send your item.
  • The estimated cost for shipping an item abroad is CHF 50, including the reclaim fee, which you’ll need to pay upfront.

Hi Maria, and welcome to MySwissAlps!

I’m sorry to hear about your lost item, but it’s good it has been found and handed in (and not stolen).

If there is a return address on the email, or any other contact details, use that to contact SBB and ask for the item to be shipped to your home address.

If not, you will probably need to make an international call to +41 51 225 78 56.

The service is available 24/7, but there might be waiting times if you call during a busy period, which will impact the cost of your call. It might be best to call at a time which is early morning or late at night Switzerland time.

There will be a “reclaim fee”, plus shipping costs to be paid in advance before they send the item. If the item is valuable, it might be worth paying that. However, if the cost of an international call, reclaim fee and shipping is more than the item is worth, it might be best to let it go. You might also need to provide identification if the item is valuable.

Please let us know how you get on!

I was told that they will be sending the procedure of shipment thru email and that it should be via fedex. But they failed to indicate the procedures and only the pick up timing’s.

Thank you for giving me advice and the number to call. Means a lot!

    Hi maria soledad_bacani,

It’s frustrating when you lose something but agree, happy to hear it’s reappeared 🙂

In addition to Alpenrose’s very helpful reply, the cost to have it sent abroad:

“Shipping of the recovered item abroad = CHF 50 per item (including reclaim fee) + shipping costs”.

So it is doable. The shipping costs in addition to fees are always charged in advance.

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda
