    Hello,

Initially my family was planning on traveling from our spot near Lugano to Interlaken via SBB, but saw that we could do so via a series of panoramic trains.

It looks like we could do Lugano – Locarno via Gotthard Ex., then Locarno- Goppensein via Centovali -Bah, Goppenstein – Spiez via Regio Express, and finally (if needed), Spiez to Interlaken via Golden Pass.

My question is, 1) Is this possible? 2) What problems does anyone see with this route?

It seems like a lot of transfers, so trying to catch a panoramic train, (which I believe there are two per hour?) might be ambitious/a time crunch.

Does anyone have any ideas about this route?

    Thank you very much!

    Hi Swiss Trip22,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

I think a more sensible route would be as follows: Lugano – Locarno – Domodossola – Brig – Spiez – Interlaken. From Locarno to Domodossola you’ll be travelling on the Centovalli Railway and from Brig to Spiez the Regio Express Lotschberger. Both are considered scenic routes. The rest of the journey will be mainly by regular trains. Please use the SBB timetable to plan your journey.

Let us know if you need more information.

    Regards,

    Anna

Well done for finding the route described. However although you have found the correct route, the train services are not arranged as you describe, see my explanation below. The route is most certainly possible, and in fact you only need to change trains three times.

The actual itinerary would be as follows:

Lugano – Locarno (Swiss Federal Railways (FFS in Italian speaking territory) route RE80 every 30 minutes

Locarno – Domodossola : Centovalli railway (panoramic trains on famous scenic narrow gauge line of the ‘100 valleys’), operator FART/SSIF

Domodossola – Brig – Goppenstein – Kandersteg – Spiez (BLS railway RegioExpress Lotschberger – regional unit train with large scenic windows, via the scenic original Lotschberg moutanin route

Spiez – Interlaken (SBB Inter city train)
