Mid July crowd on Swiss trains

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is planning a trip to Switzerland during the second and third weeks of July and will use a Swiss Travel Pass in second class. They are concerned about potential crowding and whether they should consider upgrading to first class for better seating availability.

Key takeaways:
  • July can be crowded, making it harder to find seats in second class on trains.
  • First class is typically less crowded than second class, so consider upgrading if seat comfort is a priority.
  • You can check the occupancy rate of trains using the SBB timetable to plan your trips more effectively.
  • If you find a train too crowded, don't hesitate to take the next one.

    Hi Dhara4567and welcome to MySwissAlps.com!

July is usually a busy month, so finding seats on trains might be a bit more difficult than in other months. First class is usually less crowded than the second class. Read more about the differences between the 2 classes here: http://www.myswissalps.com/forum/topic/1st-class-upgrade-with-2nd-class-swiss-travel-pass.

If you want you can upgrade your Swiss Travel Pass.

Did you know that you can check the ‘Occupancy rate’ of the trains? If you visit the SBB timetable, it will show you each route and each train. 3 red people sign means highly occupied. See the attached screenshot.

If you see that a train will be crowded, then you can take the next train.
