Milan to Lugano by bus & World Cup watching

    I have two questions:

    1) I plan on taking the bus from Malpensa to Lugano on Monday, June 25th. Is it recommended I purchase bus tickets before my arrival or can I buy them when I arrive in Milan? I understand there are three different bus companies, and I would like to take the first available bus when I arrive in Milan.

    2) Any recommendations on where to watch the Switzerland v. Costa Rica World Cup game in Lugano?

    Thank you!

    Hi cvilardi,

    1. No need to take a bus unless you want to. You can take a train there connecting in Milan. Try the timetable here to find all your options: https://www.myswissalp s.com/timetable You can buy a point to point ticket here: https://www.myswissalp s.com/traintickets/ita ly
    2. No where specific but I’ve found it isn’t hard to find a cafe or pub that is showing a football game!
    3. Depending on where you are going after Lugano you may want to look at a Swiss rail pass as well: https://www.myswissalp s.com/train/ticketspas ses

I was interested in taking the bus from Malpensa to Lugano because, after researching my options, it seems the bus is the quickest and most direct way to travel to Lugano from Malpensa. What would be the advantage of the train over the bus? My research indicates the train is two hours whereas the bus is one hour. Thank you for your help.

Ah yes you are right. There is a private bus that is about 1 hour quicker than the train.
I personally avoid buses and much prefer trains; unless the bus is significantly cheaper and/or faster.

I find trains to be much more comfortable but one hour isn’t a big deal!

The Swiss railways timetable (https://www.myswissalp s.com/timetable) is what I was to plan trips into and around Switzerland and it gives the fastest route by default- but doesn’t take private bus companies into account.

    Up to you of course!
