The ideal spot I suppose would be Mannlichen (https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/mannlichen/) or the Royal walk viewpoint. I’m not sure when the Mannlichen / Wengen cable car closes but I expect it’s too early for you purposes. Probably your best bet is to walk uphill to the most NNE corner of Wengen (it’s on the side of a hill ). You will likely have a view of Wengen (https://www.myswissalps.com/town/wengen/) as well as the SSW area of the sky.

Thanks, Marc, I appreciate your input. I did realize it was something called Google Maps in Google Earth, which I pulled up to help me try to find a trail in the exact direction you mentioned. Cross my fingers for clear skies 🙂

Hi Pcarnahan45,
It might be worth contacting Wengen tourist office for some additional suggestions.
Kind regards,

Hi Philip,
Mark’s suggestion of the Männlichen viewpoint was a good one, but as he suspected, the last cable car down to Wengen is at 17:30.
There is a hotel up there though, if you wanted to stay the night:

This map might help as well:

On the other side of Switzerland, the Val Müstair village of Lü is reputed to have the darkest skies in Switzerland – just in case you’re interested! (The Alpine Astrovillage closed in 2019 though.)

Hope you get a lovely clear night for your photos!
