Morteratsch and other stops along Bernina Express
A traveler is planning a day trip along the Bernina Express route, traveling from Tirano to Zurich. They want to know if they can leave their luggage at a station to hike to the Morteratsch Glacier and visit a nearby cheese dairy. They also seek suggestions for a village stop that’s interesting for a quick visit before reaching Zurich.
- Store your luggage at Pontresina station, which has a left luggage service and lockers.
- For a quick stop, consider Alp Grum for great views and a restaurant, or Bergün Bravuogn for its charming alpine village atmosphere.
- Press the button in advance for the Morteratsch stop on the train, as it's a request stop.
- The views from Bernina Diavolezza are stunning; take the gondola from the station for amazing glacier views.

We will be traveling on the Bernina Express route, using regular trains, and would like to leave our luggage at a station and walk to the Morterarsch Glacier and the nearby cheese dairy if we can. Is that logistically possible from the train- if so, which stop? If we make a second stop at a village for an hour or so, which one is the most interesting for a walk around near the station? We have an entire day to travel from Tirano to Zurich for our flight home the next morning, will leave Tirano 8-9 am and would like to arrive in Zurich by 21:00.
Thanks for any advice!
