Mount Rigi spa on a rainy day in December

Short summary – read this first

Sindhu is planning a trip to Engelberg with her husband and 8-year-old son from December 23-26. She initially wanted to visit Jungfraujoch but decided on Mount Rigi Kaltbad for a spa on the 24th due to travel concerns. Sindhu is wondering about the reliability of weather forecasts and whether it’s still worth visiting Rigi despite potential rain.

Key takeaways:
  • Don't rely on long-term weather forecasts in Switzerland; they are more accurate 1-2 days out.
  • The spa at Mount Rigi Kaltbad will still be enjoyable, even if it's rainy outside.
  • The views from Rigi may not be ideal in rain, but the spa experience can be relaxing regardless.

    Hi all,

I am travelling between Dec 23-26 and staying in Engelberg with my husband and 8yr old boy. I wanted to go to Jungrafouch on the 24th but after suggestions here that it could be a long trip,I have decided to go to mount Rigi Kaltbad for a spa.I am a bit disappointed as the weather doesn’t look great for between 23-26. It seems it could rain. Is it still an option to go up there from Lucerne on the 24th?I enquired with the spa and they are open during those times. Are the weather forecasts accurate? On rainy days, how are the views up Rigi?

    Thanks

    Sindhu

    Hi SIndhu,

There is no way you should rely on the weather forecast that far out. One to two days is the level of reliability in weather forecasts in Switzerland.

It won’t be raining in the spa anyway so just go enjoy it.
