Mt Pilatus tickets with Swiss Travel Pass

Short summary – read this first

Neeshu is planning a trip to Mt. Pilatus and wants advice on which tickets to buy between the Golden and Silver Round Trips. Since Neeshu has a Swiss Travel Pass, they should be cautious about unnecessary expenses and only purchase normal tickets for the trip.

Key takeaways:
  • With a Swiss Travel Pass, avoid buying the Golden or Silver Round Trip tickets, as train and boat legs are covered. Instead, just purchase regular tickets for the trip up and down Mt. Pilatus.
  • If you're experiencing issues with credit card transactions, consider using the Switzerland Travel Centre webshop, which often processes foreign cards better.
  • If a credit card is declined, inform your bank about the overseas transaction to help resolve the issue.

    Hi neeshu!

The Golden Round Trip and Silver Round Trip are explained here: http://www.myswissalps.com/pilatus. I assume you’ll be having a Swiss Travel Pass. Is that correct? In that case all boat and train legs are fully covered. Please see http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/validity, or the section “Get a discount with your rail pass” at http://www.myswissalps.com/pilatus/tickets.

So you shouldn’t buy Golden Round Trip or Silver Round Trip tickets, as you’d then pay for boat or train sections that are for free with your Swiss Travel Pass. Just buy normal tickets up and down for Pilatus: http://www.myswissalps.com/pilatus/tickets. This webshop is easiest, as it allows you to indicate you’ll be having a Swiss Travel Pass, so you’ll get the appropriate 50% discount: https://shop.switzerlandtravelcentre.com/en/product/excursionPilatus.

    I hope this helps!

Hi neeshu, at which website are you booking? If it’s the ‘domestic’ SBB website: they sometimes have issues with foreign credit cards. Their tourist webshop at shop.switzerlandtravelcentre.com/en/product/excursionPilatus usually works though.

    Hi neeshu,

In that case I recommend to contact Switzerland Travel Centre (http://www.myswissalps.com/aboutus/partners/sbb) and your visa card company. I can’t tell what’s causing this issue. Can you let us know how things proceed? Thanks and good luck!

@Neeshu – I have had similar problem when I booked tickets in Europe from US. Just call to your bank and ask them to place a notice that you are heading to Switzerland and someehre too. I cannot guaranty 100% success but the majority of bookings will go easier. IB

    Hi Angel7105,

I think it depends where your base it. Mt Pilatus is closer to get to from Lucerne. Harder Kulm is closer to Interlaken. They’re both great options for day trips too but I personally think there’s more to do on Pilatus.

    Regards,

Hi, we just returned from Switzerland. We staited in Lucerne from Apr 27 to May 2. After long hasitation we finally purchased 2 Swiss travel Passes in advanse and we do not regret about it.

This is the list of our use of STP: 1) train from Zurich airport to Lucerne; 2) full coverege of our journey to Mt. Rigi, including a bot; 3) round trip to Bern and Murten + city transportation; 4) round trip to Eigerglatscher from Lucerne; however, we were not allowed to get on a smal train from Eigerglatscher to Jungfraujoch. A controller said that STP does not cover that train. ANNA: IS THIS CORRECT?

    5) Round trip to Zurich from Lucerne including 2 h cruise on Zurich lake + city transport; 6) returm trip to Zurich airpoert from Lucerne.

So, I would like to thank the moderators of SWISSALPS forum for their advises and suggestions.

    Best regards, Igor

    Hi igor i brown,

That’s right. The Swiss Travel Pass provides discounted travel on the last section of the trip to Jungfraujoch so you need additional ticket only for this section. This is highlighted in the validity map.

Hope you had a great trip. If you have time, we would love to hear about your overall experience. You can share it here: http://www.myswissalps.com/forum/tripreports

    Regards,

    Anna
