Multi-day hike in Switzerland in mid-March: tips?

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is planning a 2 or 3-day hiking trip in Switzerland around mid-March. They are seeking recommendations for lower-altitude hiking routes due to the cold and snow at higher elevations. Since they are an experienced hiker but not in snow, they prefer safe trails for solo hiking.

Key takeaways:
  • Consider basing yourself in one town and explore local hikes for flexibility.
  • Look for hiking routes around lower lake areas like Lake Geneva, Lake Lugano, or Lake Zurich.
  • Check weather forecasts before heading out, as trails can still be tricky due to snow.
  • Explore lower segments of national trails like the Trans Swiss Trail or the Jura Crest Trail for safer hiking options.

    Hello!

I’m looking to do a 2 or 3 day hiking trip in Switzerland (I’m very flexible on the area) in mid-March. I know that it’s still quite cold/snowy at high altitudes, and I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for hiking trips at lower altitudes? I’m an experienced hiker but not in snow, and I’ll be alone so I don’t want to take any risky trails at this time of year.

Any advice would be really appreciated!

    Thanks!
