Train options from Basel airport to Interlaken
A traveler is planning to arrive at Basel Mulhouse Freiburg airport on March 22 and is seeking help on getting to Interlaken Ost efficiently. They initially thought the trip would take 1.5 hours, but now understand it will take about 2 hours and 20 minutes by public transport. They're also curious about purchasing tickets in advance and whether a rail pass would be beneficial for their 5-night stay in Switzerland.
- The quickest way to reach Interlaken Ost is to take a bus to Basel SBB and then a direct train from there.
- For stays longer than a few days, consider getting a Swiss Travel Pass to save money on your transport.
- You can buy train tickets at Basel airport, and they don’t sell out, so it’s not necessary to purchase them in advance.
- The Swiss Travel Pass covers the route from Basel airport to Basel SBB station, making it a convenient option.

Hi,
I’ll travel by air to Basel Mulhouse Freiburg on March 22, arrive around 10 AM.
I think I was missed information. Previously, I thought the trip from Basel Airport to Interlaken Ost will be 1,5 hour by SBB, BUT I’ve just read detailed info that it needs another 1,5 hours by train from Basel Airport to Basel SBB station then another 1,5 hours from Basel SBB to Interlaken OST 🙁
Could you please help:
– Is there another way to get to Interlaken Ost faster & more efficient (public transport)
– can I buy the ticket before the day? If I can, could you please share the link
Thanks in advance!
