Northface hike uphill from Mürren/Gimmelwald to Allmendhubel

Hi, I’m having trouble finding info about the hike going *uphill*. I generally prefer to hike uphill (as long as it’s not *too* steep) because it’s easier on the knees. Most people seem to hike downhill. Will I miss out on much if I do the hike uphill? Is it very steep? Would it be better to start at Murren vs Gimmelwald? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

    Hi edjusted,

If you prefer going uphill, I suggest going from Mürren to Almendhubel on foot (instead of taking the funicular). But this section is quite steep (most people just take the funicular). The remaining trail is a loop and mainly downhill from Almendhubel to Mürren, and you will have views of the mountains in front of you throughout the hike. If you like, you can continue towards Gimmelwald or just take the cable car down.

You can find information about Mürren here: https://www.myswissalps.com/town/murren/

    Regards,

    Hi,

    I love going uphill too!

I tried looking at my topo map for that area and it is very congested with Murren being so close.  I then fell back to a trail app I like called “all trails”.

Murren to Allmendhubel is showing a moderate hike with a length of 3.4 miles and a 935ft elevation gain loop.

Allmendhubel via Grimmelwald – Sprutz Wasserfall is showing as a hard hike with 8.2 miles length 2595 elevation gain out and back. Assuming ~half for going uphill.

Have you tried looking for vids on youtube about the trail(s)?  I have had success doing this for say the Eiger Trail.

    Best,
    E
