Train delay compensation and experience with ÖBB?

Short summary – read this first

Key takeaways:
  • Contact ÖBB at +43 (0)5 1717 for assistance with your compensation claim.

We took a night train wien to zurich a few days ago.  The train arrived 2.5 hours late.

I went through the OBB service delay compensation request form online many times.  I kept getting run time error when I hit the send button.  I called the customer service phone, no one answer. I can’t find an appropriate email address online.  Finally, I emailed 21 screenshots of the filled form to the technical support and ask the receiving person to kindly forward it to the correct department.  I am on the road with no access to a desktop.  Can anyone share his/her similar experience?  Note: At Zurich hb, there is no OBB office.

    Hi eyliu,

Although your rail journey ended in Switzerland, your query essentially concerns ÖBB, the Austrian rail service operator, and is really outside the scope and expertise of this forum.

From other forums I have learned that this sort of issue with ÖBB can take months to be concluded. Here are some links to try, if you have not already tried these particular ones:

    https://www.oebb.at/en/reiseplanung-services/nach-ihrer-reise/fahrgastrechte/zugverspaetungen

    https://www.oebb.at/en/fragen-und-antworten/rechte-pflichten/fahrgastrechte

    https://www.apf.gv.at/en/passengercomplaints.html

    https://www.apf.gv.at/en/Punctuality-and-compensation.html

If you have any follow-up questions, I would recommend pursuing them on the Rail Travel forum on TripAdvisor.

If it were me, I would just get on with enjoying my trip, and leave the aggravation of resolving this issue until I got home 🙂

Hope it works out OK for you!

    Hi eyliu99,

Sorry to hear about your train delay from Vienna to Zurich and the frustration you have encountered trying to contact ÖBB.

I hope you manage to connect up with ÖBB, the only contact number I found was +43 (0)5 1717

I agree with Alpenrose, perhaps enjoy the rest of your trip and if time allows, follow up when you are back home. Though do note, I think that you will need to acquire confirmation of the delay up to 7 days after your journey to progress with the claim.

Alpenrose, as always thank you for your ever helpful contributions.  The links are very useful.

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda
