    Good morning,

I would like to know if lake Zurich and St peter church and the old town are a walking distance from Zurich main station.

I have also another question : where can I buy tickets for tramways and buses given that I will not be holding a Swiss travel pass?

    Thank you,

    Hi ,

Your suggested walk is very easy. When you leave the railway station, go straight ahead (underpass) and go down the Bahnhofstrasse, turn left on Augustinerstrasse and continue until you see the church. Not all of this is a pedestrian zone, there are some commercial vehicles and trams in places, but very pretty nonetheless.

Alternatively, when you leave the Bahnhof (Station), turn left and cross the Bahnhofbrücke (Bahnhof Bridge), then bear right and pick up the beginning of the Niederdorfstrasse. This is the start of a quaint pedestrian area, although the first 50 metres or so is dull, but it does improve. Keep going until you reach the Marktgasse, turn right, cross the Rathausbrücke and you will see St Peter’s.

    Hope this helps.

    Alan

    Hi Sofi,

Yes, The church is maybe 15 minute walk from the train station and the lake is another 10-15 minutes perhaps.

Bus and tram tickets can be bought at the bus/tram stop. All stops have a machine to buy a ticket at (and you can select English for readability). Sometimes you may have to cross the street to the opposite bus stop to buy the ticket.

    Hi Sofi123,

It is well worth purchasing a ZürichCARD directly on arrival at Zurich Airport. The city card gives you unlimited travel on all forms of public transportation in the entire city and surrounding region – so the trip from the airport to downtown Zurich is already covered.

you can also purchase the Zurich card later at your convenience. These city cards can be obtained from all tickets machine of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) & Zurich Transport network or Ticketshop online through SBB.

    Adults :CHF24 for 24 hours.

    Children: CHF16 for 24 hours.
