Thanks to all for this lively conversation! I have determined to add at least one destination on “the road less traveled” to our itinerary of our first & alas, too brief, 10-day holiday.

Stay informed and inspired with the latest forum discussions e-mailed to you every day. Valuable questions and answers to help with your travel planning.

Slowpoke mentions Anthony Lambert’s book, “Switzerland by public transport”. This is still in print by Bradt Guides. I have edition 6 published 2017. The title has changed several times over the years but not by much. It’s the same book brought up to date and very good it is too.

    Thanks Andrew –

My version from 1996 is titled Switzerland by Rail

In thought it had been supplanted by a book about trains in the Alps in general – not just Switzerland.

I’ll hunt it up, because the Swiss rail network has changed since my edition was published.

Absolutely loving this thread! As frequent visitors to Switzerland we always aim to visit some of the lesser known places! Will add to list when have a bit more time. For example last year I wanted to add what are sometimes referred to as a Hausberg – a smaller peak near a town like Zugerberg near Zug. Last year’s trip reports contain some of these excursions. Will look them up to add to list.
