    Hello All

I have been to Switzerland before on 2 occasions and this time round have a 3 day stay planned in Pontresina in early october – will be staying overnight in Chur before heading to Pontresina.I do not plan to take the Bernina Express and would be looking at travelling along the same route on regional trains- I understand that the route until Poschiavo is the most stunning.

wanted a few suggestions on places to visit around Pontresina – have identified Poschiavo, Sils Maria, Alp Grum and Muottas Muragl as also the Landwasser Viaduct as possible places to visit during my stay in Pontresina- would there be any other villages that you could recommend in alternative or as additions?

Just to add that I have knee issues presently and would be able to manage walks which would not involve inclines.

    thank you in advance

    hi Poorvi,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

Pontresina is just 10 minutes by train from St Moritz (https://www.myswissalps.com/town/st-moritz/).

Pontresina itself is a charming alpine village and offers plenty of walking and hiking opportunities. In addition to Alp Grum, you can can also travel on the Bernina Railway and make a stop at Diavolezza. You can find further suggestions on thinsg to see and do in the Engadine region here: https://www.myswissalps.com/region/engadine/

From Chur, don’t forget to visit the Landwasserwekt (https://www.myswissalps.com/blog/landwasserwelt/).

    Regards,
    Anna

    Hello Poorvi

Further to Anna’s very helpful reply, get out a good map of Graubunden canton and then note the following points.

Landwasswerwelt centred on the Landwasser viaduct is close to FILISUR.  So on your journey from Chur to Pontresina, break your journey at Filisur.

Sils Maria is reached by bus from St Moritz.

Muottas Muragl is a short (level) hike or bus or train ride going north from Pontresina.

Bernina Line Diavolezza, Alp Grum and Psochiavo are all stops on the Bernina Line.  There is a very attractive lake SOUTH of Poschiavo.  Shortly after this lake you reach the the famous circular viaduct at Brusio.

Public Transport Pass.   If you are not investing in a Swiss Travel Pass consider investing in a both zones Graubunden Pass.  (Note that there are some very scenic bus and train rides in the Chur area.  They will all be covered by the Graubunden pass.)  (Note also that both the Swiss Travel Pass and Graubunden Pass as valid to Tirano.)

Best wishes for your detailed planning.

    Roger
