Pre-order Travelers Wifi hotspot or buy at Zurich Airport

Short summary – read this first

JoeJax and his wife are planning a trip to Switzerland in three weeks, flying into Zurich. He wants advice on whether to reserve a 15-day Travels WiFi in advance for pickup at the airport or rent it upon arrival. After reading the responses, he decides to pre-order the device.

Key takeaways:
  • Pre-ordering the Travels WiFi can save time at the airport and ensure availability.
  • It's advisable to pay in CHF rather than USD for better rates.
  • Carrying a spare phone USB external battery can help with charging issues during your trip.

My wife and I will be departing for Switzerland in about 3 weeks and will be flying into Zurich. I plan to purchase/ rent a 15 day Travels WiFi at the airport. Is there any advantage to reserving and paying for one in advance and simply picking it up at the airport or should I just rent it at the airport when I get there? We’ll be arriving at the Airport around 9AM.

    Thank you,

    JoeJax

    Hi JoeJax,

Ordering in advance could alleviate waiting time at the airport. I understand you can also organise to have it delivered to your accommodation too.

My wife and I + family just got back from 2 weeks in Switzerland … used Travelers WiFi for 15 days …pre-ordered delivery to our Geneva hotel … they let us know when they shipped, and it was awaiting us as promised. This first unit had some problems and ran very HOT and drained battery in 5 hours or so (but still worked), so I emailed them and they rushed out a replacement to our next hotel … very responsive, can’t complain really. New unit worked much better and lasted a good 10 hours before needing a charge (I would recommending taking along a spare phone USB external battery if you have one).

Overall, it did what it was supposed to … recommend ordering in advance (pay in CHF not $ on your credit card) and put in the 10% discount code MSA202210 (it works).

PS I have a very detailed trip journal complete with photos, specifics on hotels and restaurants, and sightseeing if anyone is interested … Geneva, Lausanne, Zermatt, Lucerne, Wengen … all by train. Its 11MB so I can email or post it if you send info. <removed by moderator> or tell me where to post

Hi there.. The last time I was in Suisse, I pre-ordered and picked up at Zurich airport.. The office was about 5 minutes walk from my gate… it was all ready to be picked up by me. super easy process… and it was one less thing for me to worry about… will it be at the hotel? will they have one if I don’t reserve ahead of time? those things.

.. I used it from Zurich, Basel, to Wengen and it worked with zero problems. Bon Voyage.

    Thanks all,

I think I will pre- order and pick it up at the airport.

    Thank you
