Where to access and when to activate my Swiss Travel Pass Flex?

Short summary – read this first

Patti is planning a 23-day trip to Switzerland with a friend, seeking advice on how to activate their Swiss Travel Pass Flex (15 days) after purchasing it. She is confused about finding her Customer Number and wants to know when to activate the pass, as they will begin their journey in Geneva but won’t use it until traveling to Montreux.

Key takeaways:
  • To activate your Swiss Travel Pass Flex, log into your account with your confirmation email and follow the instructions provided.
  • As a tourist, you don't need a SwissPass account or to link it to the SBB app; you can generate your tickets directly with your Swiss Travel Pass Flex.
  • Activate your pass only for the days you plan to use it; you can choose which days to activate based on your travel plans.

    Hi fellow Switzerland Lovers…..

I’m confused (which is not really like me)!

I have the receipt for the two Swiss Travel Pass Flex (15 days) that I purchased through SBB a few weeks ago. My friend and I are traveling in Switzerland for 23 days and then ending in Northern Italy for the last 8 nights.

I do not really understand how / when I need to activate these passes so here are a few questions I have:

1.) I don’t know where to find this ‘pass’.  When I try to pull up my SBB Mobile app on my iphone, it says “Your SwissPass account is not linked to my SwissPass Card.  Please enter your customer number at swisspass.ch to encure you can display your SwissPass on SBB Mobile.”

Where do I find that Customer Number?  My receipt has a Reference Number and an Order Number but no Customer Number.  Where can I find the customer number?

Once I figure out how to access this pass, my next question is when do I need to activate it?  We are flying into Geneva but don’t want to start using the pass until we leave Geneva for Montreux.  Since we are going to be in Switzerland for more than the 15 days that this pass allows, I will not be using it every day and will need to pick and choose the days depending on what we are doing (hence why I chose the flex pass).  For instance, we are mostly walking around Geneva so I don’t plan to use the pass until we go to travel to Montreux.  I understand I may just need to purchase an additional pass towards the end of our time in Switzerland but wanted to play that by ear until we know how many days we will need additional to the 15 this one allows.  We may only need a handful.

Can one of you experts help me navigate first, finding my customer number, and secondly, advise me on when I need to activate this pass?

    Thanks so much!

    Patti

    Hi Patti!

The SwissPass is meant for Swiss residents. You don’t need it as a tourist, and you don’t need it to generate your day tickets with your Swiss Travel Pass Flex. You don’t need an account in the SBB app either. The link provided by Anna explains how to use the Swiss Travel Pass Flex.

In addition, this info may help understand the difference between the SwissPass account on the one hand, and the Swiss Travel Pass (Flex) on the other: https://www.myswissalps.com/travel/tickets/residents/.

Thank you both so much!  That helped tremendously and I now have the first 2 days activated and printed off in case I need them so I feel much better now.  I really appreciate your help!
