    Hi,

I have Swiss Travel Pass Flex and reserved seats on Bernina Express train St.Moritz-Tirano and Bernina Express bus Tirano-Lugano next day. I understand that with Travel Pass I may do nothing, just board train/bus I have reservations for. However, I see that full price for ticket for St.Moritz-Tirano is 33CHF. So, I think that I might buy ticket and save “activation day” of Travel Pass Flex for some other activity, eg, for a mountain excursion which are fairly expensive. The same relates  to Bernina Express bus Tirano-Lugano, I am not aware of full price though.  The question is: how to buy full price ticket, say for Bernina Express train? How “to explain” the system that I have already have a reservation? The same question relates to Bernina Express bus Lugano-Tirano? Information and explanations would be much appreciated.

    Hi Mikhail F999,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

The standard price of a point-to-point ticket (without any discount) from St Moritz to Tirano is CHF33, from Tirano to Lugano CHF41. You can purchase the tickets online: https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/regular-ticket/#tickets. There is no need to indicate that you already have seat reservations on the Bernina Express. The ticket controller will check for tickets on board, and all you need to do is present your seat reservation along with your valid tickets.

    Regards,
    Anna

    Hi Anna,
Thank you for your reply. The problem is that I already have a seat reservation. Website SBB does not sell tickets without simultaneous payment for reservation, so I have to pay for reservation twice which does not make sense. One can buy reservation without ticket but not ticket without reservation. That is why I asked, how “to explain” the system that I have already have a reservation? Is it possible?

    Thank you,
    Mikhail.

    Hi Mikhail,

I did a dummy purchase and was able to book a point-to-point ticket from St Moritz to Tirano on the SBB website.

You can find further details on how to purchase point-to-point tickets here: https://www.myswissalps.com/travel/tickets/point-to-point/

    Regards,
    Anna

    Hi Anna,

Thank you very much indeed for your time and efforts for the explanation and link. Much appreciated.

I carefully read article about “Point-to-point” tickets.
    My understanding is as follows.
When I buy a point-to-point ticket, I choose a particular train (departure time). However, this ticket is valid for the whole day from midnight to 5 am next day.
If my understanding is correct, this is a crucial point.

I undertook 2 experiments with dummy purchase (screenshots enclosed).

Experiment #1 was buying St Moritz-Tirano ticket for usual train (departing 12:58) – cost 33CHF.
Experiment #2 was buying St Moritz-Tirano ticket for Bernina Express panoramic train (departing 13:17) – cost 61CHF. It includes compulsory 28CHF for seat reservation and 33CHF for the ticket itself.

    Now I understood your point.
I should buy a “point-to-point” ticket on SBB on usual train pointing out, for example train at 12:58.
However, with this ticket I will be able to board Bernina Express panoramic train at 13:17 because I have seat reservation for this train.

    Is my understanding correct?

    Thank you very much,
    Kind regards,
    Mikhail.

    Hi Mikhail,

As you have the seat reservation already for the 13:17 Bernina Express, all you need is your travel ticket which can be in the form of a rail pass or a rail ticket.  You have understood correctly, you can go ahead and purchase a regular point-to-point ticket from St Moritz-Tirano and you will be all set to enjoy the trip.

In case you wanted to read more about the Bernina Express, you can do so in the below link.  There is a video you can watch too.

    Kind regards,
    Yolanda

    Hi Yolanda,

Thank you very much for clarification.

May I ask 2 more questions, if you please:

    1) Mountain excursion to Jungfrau from Interlaken.
I have seats reservation for final section of the trip on 6/6/25.
If weather is fine, I will buy tickets at Interlaken Ost station, and we will go ahead.
If weather is bad, I will lose my reservations (10CHF p/p) and should wait for the next day.
If weather on the next day is fine, I will come to Interlaken Ost station for tickets and…
The question is: may I buy ticket AND reservation simultaneously at Interlaken Ost counter on the day of travel?  Or reservation must be purchased online only beforehand?

    2) Activation of a particular day of Swiss Travel Pass Flex
I understand that to use Swiss Travel Pass Flex on a particular day I must activate this day before travel.
The question is: may I activate it on this day, say in the morning? Or I must activate it the day before?
Taking into account weather issues I would prefer to activate pass on the day of travel, but I am not sure does it work or not.

    Thank you in advance.
    Kind regards,
    Mikhail.

    Hi Mikhail,

    In answer to your questions.

    1.  For your ticket and reservation to Jungfraujoch, yes you can purchase at the train station but personally, to avoid queues, I would purchase online.  You can find some online purchase options here, scroll to “Where to buy Jungfraujoch tickets and tours: recommended webshops”.

The seat reservation you can buy online too, scroll to “Other websites of interest”, you will see the necessary link.

    2.  Yes, you can activate your Swiss Travel Pass Flex on the morning that you wish to use.  More details on the pass, below. Scroll to “How does the Swiss Travel Pass Flex work?”.

    Kind regards,
    Yolanda
