How to rent ski equipment in Grindelwald

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is planning a skiing trip to Grindelwald on December 19th and 21st. They want to know if it’s better to rent skiing equipment online in advance or wait until they arrive, and whether they can keep the gear for three days despite only skiing on two of them. It's essential to get this organized for a smooth experience.

Key takeaways:
  • Rent your skiing equipment online ahead of time to ensure everything is ready for you upon arrival.
  • Confirm with the ski shop whether you can keep the gear for three days; they may charge for the full rental period regardless of usage.
  • Consider checking with multiple ski rental shops in Grindelwald for the best option and pricing.

We are planning on skiing in grindelwald on Dec 19th and 21st. We will need to rent skis, poles, helmets and boots. Do you recommend renting ahead of time online or waiting until we get there? Also, since we are skiing two different days with one down day in between, will we have to rent equipment two different times taking the skis back during our down day or will we be able to rent them just once and keeping them for the three days?

    Hi Rlaneinsc,

Personally, I have always ordered my skis ahead of time online. That way everything is generally ready for trying on/tweaking the fit if need be when you arrive. Of course, there is also the option to wait till you arrive to check out the ski conditions.

You best check directly with the ski shop if they will allow you to keep the skis for 3 days or if you will need to return them after day 1 and re-collect for your second day of skiing.

Speaking from experience in the US only, if you keep your skis for 3 days but only use them 2, they will probably charge you for the 3 days since this is a very busy time as it Christmas holidays.

But as advised, contact a couple of shops in the area and ask them directly.

    Hi Rlaneinsc,

You will be charged rental for 3 days although you won’t use the gears on day 2. There are several sport shops in Grindelwald. I usually rent from Intersport. You can find them online.

    Regards,

    Anna
