Reserving panaroma seats on Bernina Express

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named AussieTravel is planning a trip to Europe next year, including a ride on the Bernina Express from Italy to Zurich on June 7. They want to know how to reserve a seat in the panoramic carriage and whether all the carriages are panoramic or if a specific one is needed.

Key takeaways:
  • All carriages on the Bernina Express are panoramic, so any choice will offer great views.
  • When reserving, select either 1st or 2nd class according to your ticket type and pay a CHF10 reservation fee.
  • If you see a higher reservation fee, it may be related to the season you're traveling in.

    Hi All,

I’ll be visiting Europe next year, heading through Italy and departing from Zurich.

I have tickets booked for the Bernina Express on 7 Jun 2020, but am curious as to how to reserve a seat in panorama carriage.

I only saw that and there’s a choice of 4 ‘wagons’. Are all 4 panorama? Do I need to pick a particular ‘wagon’ to ensure I get a panorama one?

I’m hoping the answer is quite simple 🙂

    Many thanks.

Hello AussieTravel and Welcome to MySwissAlps,

You got to the right place.

All the carriages are “panoramic” on the Bernina Express. Just make sure you are reserving 1st or 2nd class according to the class of your ticket.

After you pick your seats you will get an option to nominate you already have a ticket so you will only pay the CHF10 reservation fee (per person).

    Thanks rockoyster.

Good to know all carriages are panoramic.

I couldn’t find an option to reduce the reservation fee though. All options seem to have a 16CHF fee. Maybe because it’s summer?

My bad. I read Jun as Jan so CHF16 is correct.

We did the Bernina Express in June 2017. Really enjoyed it. See bit.ly/2GEUfob.

    Travel well.

    Thanks Ildiko,

I already had purchased the tickets, but some of the other links look useful too.

    Cheers!
