Ride on the Mont Blanc Express, March trip
A traveler is planning a winter visit to Switzerland in early March and wants to include a trip on the Mont Blanc Express in their itinerary. They are considering various train stops starting from Zurich, traveling through Luzerne, Montreux, Bonaduz or Chur, and ending in St. Moritz. They are also curious about necessary breaks during long train days and have Eurail passes for the trip.
- To include the Mont Blanc Express, travel from Montreux to Martigny, which is a short 30-minute journey.
- Consider extending your stay in Montreux to explore the area and enjoy the lake before the Mont Blanc side trip.
- For long train days, plan for at least one stop for lunch or fresh air to keep your energy up.

We are planning a winter visit (early March) using the fabulous Swiss train network but am curious how how we could best incorporate a trip on the Mont Blanc Express into our itinerary. Currently I had developed this tentative itinerary:
- Arrive ZRH, train to Luzerne (overnight 1 or 2 nights)
- Luzerne to Montreux (overnight)
- Montreux to Bonaduz or Chur (overnight)
- Bonaduz/Chur to St. Moritz/Pontresina (overnight 2/3 nights)
- St. Moritiz to Milan via Tirano
We can also fly into Geneva to start the visit. In addition to fitting in the Mont Blanc Express into the trip, I am concerned whether we need more breaks in the longer days of train travel. Maybe just a stop for lunch or fresh air would be good. We will have Eurail passes for the days with long trains. We do not plan to ski, but enjoy alpine climate and watching the activity!
