Hi Crazeecajun,
If you plan to drive from Lucerne to Como, you’ll be fine if you stick to the motorways and avoid any mountain passes. This week has been really foggy though so might be a good idea to postpone your road trip if possible or you could consider taking the train.
Here are a few useful links if you are not familiar with driving in Switzerland:
Safe journey and regards,

Hi Anna. Thanks for the quick reply. Trip cannot be postponed. I have checked all of those sites. There are a few mountain passes already closed, but we are reading something about tunnels. Do you know anything about tunnels? Are they on major highways? We are headed to Como, Italy. Thanks again for your help. We are both experienced in snow driving.

Hi Crazeecajun,
That would likely be the Gotthard tunnel. It is a 17km road tunnel which connects the Ticino region and the German-speaking region of Switzerland. There is only one lane in each direction and during busy periods such as holidays or weekends, you may get stuck in traffic for a while. There are rest areas near both ends of the tunnel if you would like to take a break from driving.
Hope that helps!
Regards,
Anna

You will not take any high mountain passes driving from Luzern to Como.
Exiting Luzern, just follow the road signs for ‘Gotthard’ on green background and you will be on the right road.
The route is 200km (journey about 2.5 hours) all on the A2 motorway, Which gets through the mountains by the Gotthard road tunnel

Thanks for all of the feedback. The trip was a breeze. Lots of tunnels. No active snow. Traffic not bad at all.
