Hello Eileen
Welcome to MySwissAlps.
The SBB Saver Day Pass has to be bought at least one day in advance. It can be used on all public transport in Switzerland except the high mountain lines. (Boats on Lake Zurich are included.)
The ZVV 24-hour ALL ZONES ticket can be bought from ticket machines or booking offices or on line. No need to buy in advance. So if you arrive at Zurich badly jet-lagged and/or badly hassled by the frontier formalities, you can cancel your travel plans for June 9th, and you will not lose any money.
Assuming you feel fit for a day’s travels on June 9th, I would buy the ALL ZONES ZVV 24-hour ticket. Subject to one point regarding the station you use at RhineFalls, it meets all your travel requirements for that day. The ALL ZONES ticket gives you free travel on all public transport (including boats on the lake) in Zurich Canton. Two places just outside Zurich canton are also included. RAPPERSWIL and the place called Pfaffikon in canton Schwyz.
Park your luggage in a locker at either Zurich Airport or Zurich Hauptbahnhof (main station.) Then travel via Winterthur to Schloss Laufen am Rheinfall. A change at Winterthur may well be needed. The key point is that from Winterthur you must be on a train which stops at Schloss Laufen, the last station in Canton Zurich. (The train from Winthertur will be numbered S12 or S33 and will be going to Schaffhausen.) Lots of SWISS people use this route to the Rhine Falls precisely because Schloss Laufen is in Zurich Canton. ZVV tickets are NOT VALID on the line on the north bank serving Neuhausen. That line is in Schaffhausen canton.
When you have had your fill of rushing water, return from Schloss Laufen to Winterthur. From Winterthur get an S26 train bound for RUTI. These trains run every 30 minutes and run along an absolutely delightful rural line. At Ruti you change to an S5 train for the short ride Rapperswil, a delightful town on Lake Zurich. From Rapperswil you get the BOAT back to Zurich, Be warned that the boats run only every two hours, and the trip takes about two hours. (There are lost of trains between Rapperswil and Zurich.)
(Read the September 5th part of the recent Trip Report filed by RrD on 21st October.)
I hope this helps
Roger.

Hi Eileen,
In addition to Roger’s helpful reply. I have attached some links, that you should also find helpful.
Our Zurich travel guide, lots of information here, including how to get around, activities and hotel suggestions. In the section “Other websites of interest”, here you cn find a link to the ZVV website.
Given your plans I do not think you will need a Saver Day Pass. Should you want to read about the Saver Day Pass anyways, all information in the link here:
Kind regards,
