If you’ve not come across our guide to visiting Rhine Falls, here it is:
Neuhausen is an option to alight for the Rhine Falls, as is Schloss Laufen. Last time I visited I arrived at Schloss Laufen and took the train from Neuhausen back to Zurich.
The boat ride can get popular but if you are unsure of arrival time and you are happy to wait till the day. I am sure it will be fine.
