Stay in Lucerne in winter and get a free Tell-Pass

Short summary – read this first

A traveler shared a great tip about the 'Tell-Pass Winter' promotion for those booking hotels in or around Lucerne. If you stay for at least two nights between January and March, you get a free Tell-Pass, which allows free travel on regional transport (excluding ski lifts). This offer is only available for individual travelers or families, not groups.

Key takeaways:
  • Book a hotel in Lucerne for at least two nights between January and March to get a free Tell-Pass.
  • You’ll receive vouchers for the Tell-Pass upon hotel check-in for each traveler in your room.
  • The Tell-Pass has advantages over the Swiss Travel Pass, like free travel on some modes of transport, though Mount Rigi is included in both.

Yes it does, assuming you mean the Swiss Travel Pass. Free traveling versus discounted traveling on cable cars/cogwheel trains. Except Mount Rigi, which is included for free in both passes. Please see here to compare:

    Hi dipanwita,

You don’t have to apply, you’ll get vouchers for the passes when you check into the hotel. You will get vouchers for all travelers. Promotions like this sometimes have a maximum number of passes they’ll issue in the entire season. I have not heard about such a limit in this case, but of course you can contact the hotels after you’ve booked, just to let them know you’ll be taking advantage of the offer.

    Enjoy your stay!

Hi Hafizah… if this hotel is included in the list of hotels for this promotion, then u might get the free passes… however, provided they do not run out of stock like this year… we faced this… we booked a hotel that was in promotion list.. we even called them to make sure that we get the tell pass… but unfortunately, by the time we arrived, the tourism office already stopped giving the passes as they ran out of stock, with huge number of travelers availing the passes.. we traveled during early March, 2016… hope you don’t face the same as you are traveling early January… but, you might as well be prepared, just in case, to avoid disappointment 🙂

    Hi,

May I get the list of hotels in line with this promo? Also, is the Tell Pass Winter valid for April 5-17? Or is it a Tell Pass Summer?

    Thanks!

    Hi Hafizah,

Yes, as far as I know you will still get the Tell-Pass. There is no hotel list yet. I think nearly all hotels in Lucerne participate. Please see the Tell-Pass map for where it’s valid. Prices can be found in the timetable (please read the instructions).

    Hi luthienbabe,

There is no hotel list yet (see my above post). You need the Tell-Pass Summer in April.
