Evian-les-bains to Lausanne, Montreux, Geneva – use regional pass?

Short summary – read this first

Anagan is planning a 5-day trip staying in Evian-les-Bains with two adults and one teenager. They want to do day trips to Lausanne and Montreux, and are unsure whether to get the Regional Geneva Pass, Leman Pass, or both for their travels. They'll also explore Geneva and local towns during their stay.

Key takeaways:
  • Use the Leman Pass for easy round trips between Geneva and Evian.
  • Consider the Regional Pass Lake Geneva-Alps for travel flexibility around the area.
  • The Saver Day Pass is a good option if you're keeping a firm itinerary since it allows unlimited travel on a specific day.
  • Book your Saver Day Pass early to secure better prices, as availability may decrease closer to your trip.
  • The Bernina Express ticket can be bought separately, and the Saver Day Pass also covers this travel.

Hello, I am staying 5 days in Evian Les Bains. We are two adults and one 15. I understand it is little inconvenient to do day trips but I have free accommodation in Evian. I will do day trip to luassane and Montreux from evains. Rest of the days, i will visit geneva Should I get Reginol Geneva pass or Lémac pass or both? What is this 80 mins free Geneva pass and will that help with airport to Geneva ?

    Hi Anagan,

Evian-les-Bains is within the Leman Express network so you can use a Leman Pass to travel to Geneva and back. However you might need additional tickets if you’re extending your journey to Lausanne and Montreux. For this, maybe a point-to-point ticket (https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/regular-ticket/) might be practical.

If you’re planning a lot of travelling back-to-back in the Lake Geneva area, getting the Regional Pass Lake Geneva-Alps (https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/regional-pass-lake-geneva-alps/) might be the better solution. Have a look at the validity map here: https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/regional-pass-lake-geneva-alps/#downloads. It seems the coverage is good and you can also enjoy some discounts on certain routes and excursions.

    Regards,

    Anna

    hello Ms. anna,

thanks for replying. this is my tentative itinerary. The only reason i am staying in evian france is because i have hilton points and stay is free which will save me 1000 plus dollars. I understand it is hard place to stay and explore but i have 5 days in evain and i don’t mind go through little hassle but i still need help with which pass to take. here is my itinerary and my understanding so pls clear any misunderstanding or give feedback in simple english, since english is my second language.

day 1: at my arrival at gva airport, i will buy round trip from airport to evian and back with leman pass which is simply a ticket from geneva to evian. once i arrive, that day i am exploring only evian town walking. Cost if leman roundtrip is for two adults and one 15 years old is 90 chf/euros.

day 2: lausanne day trip: via boat. I made fake booking and SBB shows super saver 33-38 chf round trip per person so good estimate with my 15 year old and hubby will be 100 chf round trip. do you think sncf will be cheaper way ?

day 3: montreux from evian via lausanne boat again. after boat i have to take 1 or 2 buses from lausanne to montreux. there is another boat from evian to vveny(not right spelling) i can do to which is more near to montreux.

    estimate is 150 chf.

day 4 i will go to geneva for day trip

day 5 is explore local france side town.

so about 350 chf so far not counting day 4 and 5. Regional geneva pass is 325 chf and 3 days of full 100% cover and rest 50%. some says leman express only includes till amessy town and not till evian. regional geneva map is confusing to understand for me. i am not sure if boat trip from evian to lausanne is cover or not. it looks like only swiss side is cover so i will pay for one way even after having regional geneva pass?

i will buy ticket on arrival to reach geneva to evian using leman pass or use 50% day on 1 day 2,3,4 i will use free day on pass then again day 5 50%.

Please confirm that regional pass will cover above round trips. Instead of keeping cash and keep using credit card, i rather use pass but if i can save money, i will use credit card each time. what do you suggest?

one more question: on sbb website, it also have other upgrade option below point to point ticket. it says ” upgrade city montreux” does that means i can use it on local train, bus or boat whole day once i reach montreux from evian?

also, point to point or saver tickets are better for me? i usually stay firm on itinerary so i know there will be not that much change to it.

also, if bus is cheaper, may i go from evian to montreux area via bus? there is a town on border called st. gio something. may i change bus there any go from there to montreux?

I understand i am asking so many questions, but this group is my only hope. google gives all mix information.

    hello,

super saver ticket means one way only and super saver pass means whole day i can travel from evian to montreux round trip included. if i do that evian to montreux is only 123 chf for 3 of us! i understand it is non refundable. Do you think about 10 days before trip, this fare and superday pass options are still available? or it is gone ?

    Hi Anagan,

Supersaver tickets offer no flexibility.  They are date and time specific, so if you miss the departure time, you would need to purchase another ticket.  If your plans are confirmed, yes the pricing can be quite favourable.  They are not always available for purchase.  More on Supersaver tickets in the attached link:

Saver Day Passes are valid, yes for the entire day so you can travel as much as you want on your chosen date – generally on all modes of transport, there are a few exceptions but I don’t think they will affect your plans.  Saver Day Passes can sell out but can be purchased up to 6 months in advance.  Pricing can change and are typically cheaper, the earlier you buy.  All about Saver Day Passes – there are also purchase options too, below:

If you need flexibility, I’d run with the Saver Day Pass or a point to point ticket but if you are sure of your plans, then Supersaver tickets are a good way to save some money.

Yes, that’s correct, with the option “Upgrade City Montreux”, will allow you to travel on the local traffic.

As for traveling on the bus to Montreux, this could be a cheaper option, you’d have to research and compare with the other transportation options you had in mind.

The Regional Pass Lake Geneva-Alps.  I’d take another look at the map and compare your plans.  Essentially the red lines you can travel as many times as you wish on the chosen days, on all the other days (that you have not chosen), you pay a discounted price.

For ease and convenience, I’d go with the pass.  You can find purchase options in the link that Anna provided earlier 🙂

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda

Thanks for clearing some questions for me.
Just to double check, lake Geneva regional pass does cover from Geneva airport and my day one start with that pass. In that case I will not buy leman pass. Price is coming up almost same but if I get more and more saver day pass, price cheaper. Saver days pass are non refundable so still lot to think.

just a thought, if I want to do Bernina express, do I buy it separately? After Evian trip, I want to add to Evian trip

To zurich trip. Stay over night somewhere may be Chur or Zurich and do bernrina express to tirano then lake Como area.
do you suggest I buy any time of pass for this second trip and where to buy bernina express train tickets. Pls suggest

    Hi Anagan,

The Saver Day Pass is also valid as a ticket to travel on the Bernina Express. Be sure to also book the seat before the trip. You can find more information about tickets and reservation on the Bernina Express here: https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/bernina-express/
