I am travelling to Switzerland from Paris on 31 Aug 2024 with family via train (2 Adults, 2 Kids 6-9, infant 1 year) staying in Interlaken. Following are my plan itinerary. Kindly help to plan select the travel pass.

Is it safe to travel with infant on top of Europe.

Should I buy 6-day Full Swiss pass or combine with Jungfrau Pass. Please guide me.

    1. Day 1 Arrival (31-08-2024)
    2. Day 2 Jungfrau and Grindelwald (01-08-2024)
    3. Day 3 Zermatt and Matterhorn (02-08-2024)
    4. Day 4 Lucerne and Mount Pilatus (03-08-204)
    5. Day 5 Bern and Thun (04-08-2024)
    6. Day 6 Departure Milan (05-08-2024)

Planning to cover Harder Kulm, Jungfraujoch and Grindelwald, Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, Mount Pilatus, ROPE PARK

Hi riz, and welcome to MySwissAlps!

    >>> Is it safe to travel with infant on top of Europe.

Please see the FAQ on the Jungfraujoch site:

    https://www.jungfrau.ch/en-gb/faq/#275

This would also apply to other places you plan to visit over 2,000 m in altitude. I would consult your child’s doctor beforehand for advice specific to your child.

    >>> Should I buy 6-day Full Swiss pass or combine with Jungfrau Pass

I don’t think a Jungfrau Travel Pass would be cost-effective for your brief time in the region it covers. A 6-day Swiss Travel Pass looks like a better choice – take note of how you can get free travel for your children as well.

To be certain, you would need to do some calculations.

As I understand it, you are staying the whole time in Interlaken and doing day trips elsewhere – is that correct?

If that is the case, I would be flexible with your mountain visits. One mountain might be in the clouds on your planned day for visiting, another one might be clear that day – so you could swap your days around depending on weather and visibility conditions.

    I hope this helps!

    Hi riz,

Yes, I agree with Alpenrose, a Swiss Travel Pass could provide better coverage for your plans. Perhaps take a look at the coverage map in the link provided earlier.  That way you can see at a glance what is in included.  Your infant would travel for free and for your 6 and 9 year olds, you can apply for the complimentary Swiss Family Card.  More details on the Swiss Family Card below, scroll to “Discounts for children: the Swiss Family Card”:

Just to add. For day 6, when traveling to Milan, your Swiss Travel Pass would cover all your travel to the Swiss border, thereon, you’d only need to purchase a ticket from, most likely Chiasso or Domodossola to Milan (depending which route you take): https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/swiss-travel-pass/#downloads.

You can research your route using the Swiss timetable (https://www.myswissalps.com/travel/public-transport/timetable/)

Further details on travel to/from Italy in the link attached, with purchase options for the Italian tickets:  https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-guide/italy-switzerland/

Yes, with any of your mountain excursions, be sure to check the weather will be OK before buying any tickets.  You’ll be fine to purchase either a day before or on the morning.  More on the weather here:  https://www.myswissalps.com/planning/practical/weather/forecast/

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda
