Super Saver ticket for Geneva to Montreux?

Short summary – read this first

Bebe is arriving in Geneva on 1 September and is planning to travel to Montreux the next day with a 15-day Swiss Travel Pass. They are looking for advice on whether to buy point-to-point train tickets or consider a SuperSaver ticket for their trip to Montreux, including questions about costs and booking requirements.

Key takeaways:
  • Buying a normal ticket from Geneva to Montreux costs 15.5 CHF; SuperSaver tickets can save you around 3-7 CHF per person.
  • You should check the SBB timetable for SuperSaver ticket availability, as there are about two trains per hour for this route.

    Hello,

We will arrive in Geneva early morning on 1 September. Our 15 day STP begins the next day, as originally we were going to stay in Geneva one night, but have changed plans. Should we just get point to point train tickets to go on to Montreux (cost?), or would the super saver ticket be worth looking into price wise for that day? Do we have to book a specific train and time on the super saver ticket, considering they get sold out?

Thanks so much for all your help.

    Bebe

    Hi Bebe,

GenevaMontreux one way by train costs 15.5 CHF as a normal ticket. I’ve attached a screenshot of the SBB timetable, where you can see also the SuperSaver ticket prices (the black line with the % shows them)

As you can see, you can save around 3-7 CHF per person if you buy the SuperSaver ticket.

If you are not familiar with the SBB timetable and how to use it and how to search for the prices, start here: http://www.myswissalps.com/timetable.

There are trains 2 trains per hour Geneve – Montreux so the chances of getting a supersaver ticket are quite high (although I don’t know how the Supersaver ticket algorithm works…)
